Getting it “Right,” The In‐House Counsel’s Roundtable – Discussion on Their Approach to an International Oil and Gas Arbitration

This panel of In‐house counsel will discuss best practices and the unique aspects of participating and conducting an international oil and gas arbitration. The panel will provide their overview of the important issues in oil and gas disputes that may impact their respective companies and the critical issues from their perspective that arise from energy disputes.

Issues to be discussed include:
  • In House counsel’s preparation and approach to the commencement of the case
  • Selecting outside counsel
  • Consideration of mediation or other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution prior to or concurrently with the international arbitration proceedings
  • The conduct of oil and gas arbitrations, including coordination with outside counsel, the selection of the arbitrators whether party-appointed or list method, arbitrator qualifications sought, the appointment of experts, and approaches to the exchange of information
  • Has COVID-19 impacted in-house counsel’s approach to international arbitrations, virtual hearings, expedited processes? 
  • Suggestions for the international arbitration field with a look to the future and what in-house counsel would like to see as international arbitration evolves.
